Oh so close!

Oh so close!

The last week in Hervey Bay has been absolutely glorious.  The sun has been shining, the water has been glassed out and the whales are everywhere.  At the moment there are around 50 to 70 humpback whales in the bay.   Newborn calves are frolicking and jumping around to the delight of our passengers.  There have been fighting pods (this is when the big bulls are trying to get close to a female) with mum protecting her newborn.  Whales swimming beneath the boat, coming out the other side and breaching right up close to the Spirit of Hervey Bay splashing our passengers on the foredeck.  Action, excitement and close encounters galore.  This week we also had the pleasure of a Southern Right whale and its calf in the bay, not as pretty as the humpbacks but very exciting all the same.  We also had the great pleasure of entertaining a couple who were celebrating their 59th Wedding Anniversary, a lovely couple still very much in love.  What an achievement.

The school holidays are fast approaching and now is the perfect time to go whale watching in Hervey Bay.  The calm waters, friendly whales and perfect weather make it an experience you will never forget.
